New season, new confessions. In this first episode of Campus Confessional, students confront screen time, social pressure and the small, awkward truths of student life.
After a break of several months, Campus Confessional returns for Season 3. Michela, Kevin and Thalassa pick things up with a familiar format, with new confessions, but a slightly sharper focus: what does student life actually look like right now?
The opening hot take sets the direction. According to the hosts, our phones are the problem. Not in an abstract way, but in everyday behaviour: hours of screen time, constant scrolling and the difficulty of disconnecting, even when you want to.
From there, the episode moves into recognisable student experiences.
A recently arrived student questions Dutch food culture and asks for recommendations. The answer is practical: if you know where to go, student life in Groningen offers more than expected, from Korean street food to Vietnamese kitchens and budget-friendly sandwich spots.
A second story raises more complicated questions. A student claims a classmate lied about being abroad for a funeral, only to be exposed through a location-sharing app. The discussion that follows is less about the lie itself, and more about trust. When does sharing someone’s location cross a line?
The everyday dilemmas are just as telling. Going to the supermarket in pajamas, running into people at the wrong moment, or overthinking what others might think, small situations that say a lot about how students navigate social space.
The final story is more absurd than serious: being mistaken for a drug dealer during a night out. It is awkward, slightly uncomfortable, but also a reminder that student life often consists of unpredictable moments that only make sense afterwards.
