Eva Dives into Groningen’s Vibrant Jazz Scene During Eurosonic

Eva shows that Groningen’s jazz scene is far from being just for old folks. She hits the town with international conservatoire students and discovers some truly unique live music spots.

(WARNING: This video is partly in Dutch, but if you turn on the subtitles in YouTube, you will get an English translation of the Dutch parts!)

Eva meets the students at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, where she’s immediately invited to jam with the band: Vasilis Soukos on drums, Dion Hoorn on sax, Lorenz Janssen and Hanif Abdurrahman Aziz on guitar, and Pratick Baniya on bass. After that, it’s time for a quick beer before heading to the first live music venue of the night: Literair Café De Graanrepubliek.

But first, the students share some insider tips. Want to really experience Groningen’s jazz scene? Besides De Graanrepubliek, you should also check out De Smederij and De Zolder.

Eva’s in luck—she’s going out during the biggest live music event of the year, Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS), which means the city is bursting with live concerts. Next stop? Nachtcafé Warhol! It’s packed, though, so they quickly move on to Klup de Dag for some live hip-hop.

Time for an energy break! Of course, no night out is complete without a snack stop at De Hoek. To wrap up the night, they catch a few more gigs at Grote Markt, ending an evening full of live music. Fun, beer, and gezellig!

In Doorhalen met Eva (All-nighters with Eva), Eva sets out to explore Groningen’s most exciting nightlife spots. Are you coming along?

Eva is in her final year of university and wonders: Is there more to get out of my student years? Have I missed something? Are there places I still need to visit? She finds out in the new series Doorhalen met Eva.
