Why studying abroad can often feel lonely? Find out in episode 3 of Claire Moreau!

Finding a room and a job while studying abroad are one thing. Building a life for yourself is another.

The third episode of Claire Moreau Moves Abroad follows Claire as she tries to balance work, classes and life as an international student in Groningen. After several late-night shifts at her new job, she finds herself struggling to stay awake during lectures and questioning whether she can keep everything together.

In Going to Class, Claire receives an assignment about how personal experiences shape who we become. What initially seems like a simple presentation gradually turns into a reflection on a challenge many international students know all too well: loneliness.

Along the way, Claire navigates classroom discussions, relationship advice from friends, unexpected conversations with her teaching assistant and the pressure of balancing study with work. While the episode retains the awkward humour that defines the mockumentary series, it also explores the realities of moving to a new country without an established support network.

The episode culminates in Claire’s classroom presentation, where she reflects on loneliness, independence and the process of building a new life far from home.

Created by first-year International Communication student Alec Salomon, Claire Moreau Moves Abroad follows a French student during her first months in Groningen while a film crew documents her experiences for a fictional Hanze campaign. Throughout the series, Claire encounters the challenges and opportunities of international student life, from housing and employment to friendships, relationships and finding her place in a new city.

New episodes of Claire Moreau Moves Abroad appear weekly on YouTube until 1 July.
