‘What I want to learn in Groningen is to feel comfortable in a multilingual environment and communicate effectively.

‘I grew up in a small town near Chicago. Chicago is full of high-rise buildings, tall and thin, without any design. Groningen has great architecture, lots of character. The people are extremely kind. Life in Chicago is fast-paced. The focus is on work and day-to-day issues, not on the environment.

‘In Bloomington-Normal, where I study International Business at the Illinois State University, I met an exchange student from IBS at Hanze: his name is Mart. He inspired me to take the exchange programme International Business & Marketing here. This week he picked me up from the airport and I met his family. Right now I’m renting a room in his sister’s house.’
