Your Hanze Song Playlist, week 3: Let’s rock!
What song best describes your student life in Groningen? Each week we will add your favorite songs to the Your Hanze Song Playlist on Spotify. We will also share the stories behind the songs here. This week, we focus on rock: which songs make Hanze students want to play the air guitar?
The stories
International Communication student Hoang Pham picks ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen. ‘During this pandemic I have listened to their songs a lot, because Covid just made me sad, and Queen helps fight those negative feelings’. The lyric that best describes how Hoang has felt during his time at Hanze is ‘Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?’
Noah also studies International Communication and picks ‘Highway to hell’ by AC/DC as his Hanze song. It actually reminds him of pre-corona times. ‘This is one of those songs they should play in bus 15. When we are all going towards the Hanze!’
‘Gives you hell’ by the All-American Rejects is the first pick of ICT-student Thijs. Why? ‘Well, the name says it all, right?’ Thijs also sent in another song which goes a little outside of our Rock theme: ‘Help herself’ by bbno$ and Diamond Pistols. ‘I had to add this song because it reminds me of the response I get from university when I ask for help. The response is always the same ‘help yourself’ or in this case ‘help herself’.’
International communication student Teodor’s Hanze song is ‘This Must Be The Place’ by Talking Heads, ‘This song came into my life when I had to create a video and present myself and even when planning the video, I had the idea of using this exact song. Now every time I listen to it, it reminds me of the video I created, and it makes me appreciate the song even more’. The lyric that represents Teodors time at the Hanze the most is ‘Home is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there’. ‘It perfectly sums up the idea of Hanze being the best place for me, being around the people I like and who I want in my life.’
