Het Overweeghuis helps sexually exploited women escape prostitution
In this episode, Mikaella has a conversation with Carissa Huizinga, the volunteer coordinator of Het Overweeghuis, a safe house in Groningen. This place functions as a resting place for women who consider exiting sex work and survivors of trafficking.
Het Overweeghuis is run almost exclusively by volunteers and Carissa tells us all about what it is like to work there. What are some of the special circumstances the residents of the house deal with? What are the house policies around drug use? How are the volunteers supported in their work? What is the real situation regarding sex work and sex workers´ lives in the Netherlands?
